Types of Air Compressors

Air compressors come in different sizes, models, and prices. To choose the right Maziak air compressors, you need to know what you are looking for. Note that compressors are used in a number of situations ranging from corner gas stations to large manufacturing companies. There about four types of basic air compressors on the market, including rotary screw compressors, axial flow compressor, centrifugal compressor as well as reciprocating compressor. It is worth mentioning that each and every type of air compressor uses special filter. Moreover, they can be classified further based on number of compression stages, drive methods (lubrication, steam, gasoline, engine or motor), and the cooling methods such as oil, air or water.
Here are the four types of compressors

Reciprocating Air Compressors

They are examples of positive displacement appliances. This implies that when the air pressure is lowered, its volume is increased. In this case, the successive air volumes that are confined within a closed area and and elevating this air to a higher pressure by lowering its volume. This is made possible by a piston inside a cylinder, which act as the displacing and compressing element.
There are two types of these tools. They include single stage and two stage appliances. Single stage are mainly used for pressures that range between 70 psi and 100psi respectively. On the other hand, two stage are basically used for higher pressures that go up to 250 psi. Reciprocating types are considered as single acting, especially when the compressing is achieved using a single side of the piston. But if the compressor uses two sides of the piston, then it is regarded as double acting.

Rotary Screw compressors

These are in the same group as the reciprocating units. The most common type in this category is the spiral lobe oil flooded screw or single stage helical unit. They come with two rotors inside the cylider. The rotors play an important role in compressing the air within it. It has no valves. This unit is oil cooled and the oil is used to seal the internal clearances. Basically, the cooling process takes place within the appliance and therefore the running parts do not experience high temperatures that can be detrimental to the machine. They are either water or air cooled products.

Centrifugal compressor

It is a dynamic unit that relies on shift of energy from a rotating impeller to the air. In most cases, these machines produce high pressure discharge by transforming angular speed or momentum from a rotating impeller leading to dynamic displacement. Centrifugal units rotate at higher speed than other models or types. This implies that centrifugal appliances are both effective and efficient and hence suitable for commercial settings.

Axial Compressor

It is a remarkable machine that is able to continuously pressurise gases. In fact, axial unit is a rotating, airfoil based machine in which the air flows parallel to the axis of rotation. This feature differentiate this type of compressor from the other rotating appliances like centrifugal among other types. Axial machines are commonly used in large gas turbines like jet engines, ship engines and more.
It is up to you to choose the perfect Maziak air compressors that suit your needs and budget
