When we talk about industrial laser cutters, there are many different types of systems used for various kinds of materials. Almost every industry prefers laser cutting over mechanical cutting when precision parts or thick flat sheets are needed. Every industrial laser cutter machine has a laser head and material table. These parts are assembled in three basic configurations which have been explained in this post.
Most industries use one of the three common types of laser cutters used in manufacturing industry. These include :
● Moving material machines
● Flying optics machines
● Hybrid configuration machines
A laser cutter is mostly used to lacerate piping or flat sheet material which is commonly used in numerous industrial projects.
Moving Material – This is one of the most popular machine configurations used in laser cutters. Such machines use stationary laser beams with moving materials with the use of an automatic mobile surface. This surface is located below the laser cutter. This machine offers one basic advantage. The surface of the material and opening of the laser are always separate at a distance. Although such laser cutters use fewer optics, they are also quite slow.
Flying Optics Machine – This is one of the fastest laser cutters used to serve industrial purposes. Such machines come with a movable laser beam. This laser beam is paired with stationary material. Moreover, the laser beam can easily move along the x and y axis of the material. Due to this, the machine’s completion time is much faster.
However, flying optics laser cutters also have some drawbacks. For instance, since laser heads are always mobile, it may constantly change the beam length. But you can counter this problem with some simple tips. You can adjust the machine by simply aligning the optics. You can use various tools specifically designed for this purpose. It will allow you to keep some distance between material and laser opening.
Hybrid Configuration – This is another common configuration of laser cutters used in industries. As the name suggests, such a laser cutter combines features from other two laser cutting machines. In such machines, a table moves slowly along x axis, while the machine’s laser head moves along y axis. Due to such movement, there is a constant laser stream which is not delivered by the other two types of laser cutting machines. In addition to this, most industries prefer hybrid laser cutters because they are more energy efficient and don’t lose a lot of power. The are useful for various applications.
Besides these common machine configurations, laser cutters are available with different kinds of lasers. Three most common types are :
● Neodymium – High-energy, situations where boring is not frequent
● Neodymium Yttrium Aluminium Garnet – Suitable for trimming, engraving and boring jobs requiring a lot of energy
● CO2
CO2 laser cutter is the most popular. It can easily and efficiently handle cutting, boring and engraving jobs. Such lasers are available in a lot of different versions. Your choice will depend on the type of industrial work you are handling. CO2 laser cutters can cut a wide range of materials, including titanium, stainless steel, plastic and fabric.
