Detailed Insight About Rack panels

You can either purchase the customised or the blank rack panels depending on your needs. Whether you are intending to use them individually or in conjunction with GrayBox Enclosures, they provide structurally stronger and more aesthetically pleasing alternative than the sheet metal panels. There are three types of rack panels: type 1, type 2 and type 3. Both Type 1 and Type 2 have a flat exterior surface ideal for screening. The third type boasts a recessed and flanged exterior surface which is ideally suitable for use with overlays and has two mounting spacers which compensate for recess. Machining of the three types is easier.

More details on Rack Panels

The A Style GradeBox is made up of six parts which include the front panel, the two sides, rear panel, top and the bottom cover plus the hardware. The front and the rear panels aren’t the same as are the top and the bottom covers.

The front panels: Type 1 rack panels

The front panels have a plain exterior surface that has no details. The flat nature is ideally suitable for the silk screening. They consist of rack mounting holes and machining them is also easier. Upper flanges support the top cover and also accommodate the fastening screws. Lower tracks support the front edges of the bottom cover.

The front panels: Type 2

The front panels type 2 are distinguished by flat exterior surfaces that feature grooves top and bottom and which are necessary in strengthening the frame panel. Just like you expect with the front panels type 1, the type 2 are easier to machine and are ideal for silk screening. The upper flanges support top covers and also accommodate the fastening screws. Lower tracks support the front edges of the bottom cover.

Front panels: type three

The type three panels have flanged exterior surfaces which are similar to those of P and B styles. Even though you can silk screen these front panels, they are typically ideal for overlays. The front panels comes with two spacers that compensate for recessed surface and also allow easier rack mounting and complete the panel framing. But otherwise, the main features of these panels are similar to those of type 1 and 2.

The rear panels

Rear panels are made from the same extrusion like the Type 1 front panels. The main difference is that the rear panels are shorter than the front panel – excluding the mounting holes. The panels are easily machined and are suitable for silk screening. The panels’ upper flange accommodates fastening screws and supports rack top cover. The lower track is important and supports the captured bottom’s lower track support.

The side panels

Manufacturers make the side panels with rugged aluminium extrusion. The panels are easier to machine and feature the screw slot detail which allows the assembly of the front and the rear panels. Upper recesses accommodate the stiffening flange of top covers. Lower tracks support captured bottom cover. You can also select the vented side option that incorporate the standard ventilation pattern or even substitute captive nuts for standard speed nuts.

The covers

The bottom covers are recessed and captured on all sides to allow the mounting of components below Size 6 or M3.5 pan head screw and this eliminates any need for countersinking.
